Review by Josiane Josi

The album Musica Nova Bohemica by Miloslav Kabeláč, Marek Kopelent, Luboš Fišer, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Libor Pešek is a must-listen for fans of contemporary classical music. The album features a collection of works by three of the most prominent Czech composers of the 20th century, performed with great skill and sensitivity by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Libor Pešek.

The first piece on the album, Kabeláč's Symphony No. 8, is a haunting and atmospheric work that showcases the composer's unique approach to orchestration and his mastery of tension and release. Kopelent's Concerto for Orchestra is a lively and dynamic piece that features intricate rhythms and complex harmonies, while Fišer's Symphony No. 2 is a brooding and mysterious work that draws on elements of both modernism and romanticism.

Throughout the album, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra delivers outstanding performances, bringing each piece to life with precision and passion. Under the direction of Pešek, the orchestra navigates the complex rhythms and harmonies of these works with ease, creating a rich and immersive listening experience.

About Miloslav Kabeláč, Marek Kopelent, Luboš Fišer, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Libor Pešek

Czech composer and conductor. Born August 1, 1908 in Prague (former Austro-Hungarian Empire), died September 17, 1979 in Prague (former Czechoslovakia). His music is characterised by his own extraordinary artificial tone-creative principles. His musical expression makes use of elements of exclamation, rhythmic shouts, monotonous and exalted invocations, mysterious, magical and symbolic meanings. The basic ideas of Kabeláčs works is an emphatic warning against the danger of a decline of all positive values of humanity in context of the historical situation at the time of the origin of main works (World War II, communist regime and the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968). Typical orchestration and favourite instrumentation: symphonic orchestra, percussion ensemble, organ, piano, mixed choir, solo vocals.
