Review by mike vanderpoel

True Vine by Mike Seeger is a delightful album that showcases the artist's talent and passion for traditional American folk music. The album features a variety of styles, from old-time Appalachian ballads to bluesy tunes and gospel hymns. Seeger's mastery of various instruments, including the banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, is evident throughout the album.

The album opens with the upbeat and lively "Chinquapin Hunting," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Seeger's rendition of "John Hardy" is particularly impressive, showcasing his skill on the banjo and his ability to tell a story through music.

The album also features a number of gospel hymns, including "I Am a Pilgrim" and "This World Is Not My Home," which are beautifully arranged and sung with heartfelt emotion. "Sail Away Ladies" is another standout track, with Seeger's fiddle playing taking center stage.

Norman and Nancy Blake talk about Mike Seeger in "Wisdom of the Elders". I could have really used this influence back in '73 when I first started learning how to Flat-pick and play Banjo. It would have been a great compliment to "Doc Watson on Stage". You can hear Mike's influence in the music of Norman Blake, John Hartford and maybe even Byron Berline (Lost Indian). Thanks for the upload!
Gee whiz, shit kicking music!
Pete Seeger once said that his brother Mike was the best musician in the family. He was right. It's o sad that they're both gone now.
Met him twice, and got to jam with him. Thank you for uploading!
I bought this album new in the Philippines in 1972 and my task as ships entertainment provider I played it as USS Providence CLG-6 provided support off coast of Vet Nam. Love it! Not the war! Signed: Fan of Hag and Willie ---- etc.
