Review by Kevin Collinson

Now Is The Caroling Season by Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians is a delightful album that captures the spirit of the holiday season. The album features a mix of classic and contemporary Christmas songs, all performed with the signature style and energy that Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians are known for.

The album opens with the upbeat "Jingle Bells" and continues with other traditional favorites such as "Deck the Halls" and "We Three Kings." The group's harmonies are tight and polished, and the arrangements are lively and festive.

One standout track on the album is the medley "Silent Night/Away in a Manger/O Holy Night," which showcases the group's vocal prowess and their ability to deliver a moving and emotional performance. The album also includes some lesser-known Christmas songs such as "The Christmas Song" and "What Child Is This," which are given fresh and engaging interpretations.

About Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians

Fred Waring (June 9, 1900 July 29, 1984) was a popular musician, bandleader and radio-television personality, sometimes referred to as "America's Singing Master" and "The Man Who Taught America How to Sing." He was also a promoter, financial backer and namesake of the Waring Blender, the first modern electric blender on the market. Raised in his father's Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, music store, Waring studied violin as a youth and was a member of his high school glee club. He formed his first professional band around 1916, a six-man string outfit called Waring's Banjazztra. After graduating from college, he took the group to Detroit, where it began to attract the attention of the local music crowd. He later dropped banjo from the line-up and changed the name of the group to the Pennsylvanians. The newly-named orchestra soon became a favorite on the collegiate circuit. Their first recording, ''Sleep,'' on the Victor label in 1923, was a tremendous success. Waring's orchestra supposedly has the distinction of being the first to record a tune, the first to record a rumba, and the first dance band to record with a vocal chorus. Aside from , the group also released material on the label. Vocalists included Stuart Churchill, Waring's own brother, Tom, and drummer Poley McClintock (the froggy voice on I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream).

@cbfall Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it.
This is one of the Christmas albums in my Dad's record collection. I grew up listening to this every Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing.
@sideshowtink Thanks Tink! I totally agree.
@ThisGuyFrritz This is definitley a different version from what you'd normally hear. I don't think I've ever seen the Yule Log before. I'll have to check it out.
Great christmas record!
I remember hearing this version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" while watching "The Yule Log" on WPIX back in the late '70s or early 80's.
Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians are so wonderful!
Thanks for putting this out. This was the one Christmas record we had growing up. I have such fond memories of it. You even put a picture of the album cover.... awesome!
@tlgordin really? what a cute tradition! i reckon every day can be a mini-Christmas, getting better & better as we head towards our Heavenly Home! (:D
@sideshowtink Thank you Tink! :-)
@cbfall Yes, this one's in Mono. Sleigh Ride is also one of my favorites on this Lp. I'm glad you enjoyed the record. It just seemed a shame to only play one cut from this one because the songs all go together so well.
Magical!!
This christmas record was recorded in mono,right? I love how they did "Sleigh Ride"! Really fun! The entire record is fantastic!
