A Spontaneous Performance Recording by Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem is a must-have for any fan of traditional Irish music. The album captures the raw energy and talent of these legendary musicians as they perform live in front of an enthusiastic audience.

From the opening track, "The Rising of the Moon," to the final notes of "The Parting Glass," the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem deliver a flawless performance filled with passion, humor, and heart. Their harmonies are tight, their instrumentation is spot on, and their stage presence is captivating.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Jug of Punch," a lively drinking song that showcases the group's ability to get the crowd involved and singing along. Another highlight is "The Wild Rover," a classic Irish tune that never fails to get toes tapping and hands clapping.

Comments

I grew up listening to this album.
Lyrics:
Traditional

We're all met together here to sit and to craic
Wi' our glasses in our hands and our work upon our back
There's nae a trade among 'em that can mend or can mak
If it wasn't for the work of the weavers

If it was not for the weavers, what would you do?
You wouldn'a hae the clothes that's made of wool
You wouldn'a hae a coat of the black or the blue
If it was not for the work of the weavers

There's soldiers and there's sailors and glaziers and all
There's doctors and there's ministers and them that live the law
And our friends in Sooth America, though them we never saw
But we ken they wear the work of the weavers

If it was not for the weavers, what would you do?
You wouldn'a hae the clothes that's made of wool
You wouldn'a hae a coat of the black or the blue
If it was not for the work of the weavers

Though weavin' is a trade that never can fail
As long as we need clothes for to keep another hale
So let us all be merry o'er a bicker of good ale
And we'll drink to the health of the weavers

If it was not for the weavers, what would you do?
You wouldn'a hae the clothes that's made of wool
You wouldn'a hae a coat of the black or the blue
If it was not for the work of the weavers~

Thanks for the Scarf, Sal!!
Is this an Irish folk song?
I’ve got this sudden urge to put my wellie-boots on.
Ren and Stimpy's "A Hard Day's Luck"!
Where would you be with out your gum boots
Thanks for this!  I love this simple song of the daily enjoyments of life.  I've missed it over the years.
I got the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem album when I was younger so my dad could her the Celtic music he heard his great grand dad talk about.    it is similar in some ways to the old time hillbilly music of Americana
#ugottalisten2b4udie  .
Glad you like it, Merv. This version was publicised by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger in The Singing Island
Thanks for this!
thank you for posting this
Can someone please post the lyrics to this song. I'm not native to the isle but my blood yearns for the tid bits of my heritage I can recover. I would be much obliged
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Paddy and Tom Clancy have a nice bit of harmony at the end during the phrase, "and I've had twenty-nine." It's an ingenious arrangement.
This is an old Glaswegian song. My late grandmother who was born in the late 1880's used to sing this to me when I was just
a child. Happy memories.
Great! Thx for posting.
Grew up with the Clancy Brother and Tommy- What's amazing is I include Pete Seeger as well. How did these guys ever get together is legend. A great Pete Seeger, google it, live with Arlo Guthrie, I Can't Help Loving You, ya won't be disappointed. Thank you Clancy Brothers and Tommy-
"Give every Irishman a shovel and we'll dig a hole deep enough to deliver the queen directly into the devil's hand's". England out. Éirinn go Brách.
2000 in 25years...is that all?....drop in the bucket mate compared to some of the planet's conflicts!
Thank you so much for posting all the songs from this album. It's brought a tear to my old eyes!
When it comes to singing Irish folk songs, nobody could touch the Clancy Bros!: Grew up listening the likes of above - pure gold.
yeah, it doesn't better than this...
I grew up listening to the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. My dad had this album. It's nice to be able to hear it again. thanks.
Funnyyyyyyyyyyy
Real class
Saw them in Belfast in the 70s. Real performers. Total entertainment

My father used to listen to them on a regular basis now he's gone. But the music isn't! Thankyou!
This is the song that "Turkey in the straw" came from
