Sothis, the second studio album by the Polish death metal band Vader, is a relentless display of technical musicianship and unrelenting aggression. Released in 1994, the album showcases the band's signature sound, combining thrashy riffs, pummeling drums, and brutal vocals.

Throughout the album, Vader delivers a barrage of punishing tracks, each one more intense than the last. From the blistering opener "Hymn to the Ancient Ones" to the frenzied closer "Revolt," the band never lets up, delivering a non-stop assault of pure death metal fury.

But what sets Sothis apart from other death metal albums of the era is its technical proficiency. The band's musicianship is on full display here, with intricate guitar solos, lightning-fast drumming, and complex song structures. The title track, "Sothis," is a prime example of this, with its intricate guitar work and shifting time signatures.

Vader first formed back in 1986 in Poland. The band eventually released their first full-length "The Ultimate Incantation" in 1992. After touring with bands such as Dismember and Suffocation, the band released "Sothis" and "The Darkest Age - Live '93" both in 1994. "De Profundis" was then released the coming year, followed by "Future of the Past" (1996), and "Black to the Blind" (1997) (both backed by great touring). Two early demos, "Necrolust" (originally recorded in 1989) and "Morbid Reich" (1990) were re-released under demand as "Reborn in Chaos". Live albums and videos followed, but the band eventually re-appared as one of the most menacing Death Metal acts ever with the outstanding "Litany" in 1999. Vader released an impossible amount of secondary releases and EP during their activity: 1994's Sothis is the oldest. The title track would have been later released in De Profundis, and the recording here is slightly worse and demo-ish. Only for fans. Included are also three useless intros and a D-tuned Black Sabbath cover.
