Review by Arkand Zeshaprajna

Meet The Supremes, the debut album by the American female singing group Supremes, was released in 1962. The album features a collection of twelve tracks that showcase the group's signature sound and style.

The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "Your Heart Belongs to Me," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The Supremes' harmonies are on full display in tracks like "Who's Lovin' You" and "I Want a Guy," while tracks like "Buttered Popcorn" and "Let Me Go the Right Way" are more playful and lighthearted.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "A Breath Taking Guy," which features lead vocals by Mary Wilson and showcases her soulful voice. The album also includes a cover of the classic song "Time Changes Things," which the Supremes put their own spin on.

American soul and R&B group, recording during the 1960s and 1970s. For releases by Diana Ross & The Supremes or variants of that please enter under The Supremes with the appropriate artist name variation. (1961 to 1970) (1961 to 1977) (1961 to 1967) (1961 to 1962) (1967 to 1972, 1974 to 1976) (1970 to 1973) (1972 to 1973) (1974 to 1977) (1976 to 1977) Hugely successful female vocal group formed in 1961, after initially after being called from 1959 to 1960. Their best-known and most stable lineup was Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, in which configuration they became Motown's top act of the 1960s, though of that line-up only Wilson remained in the group by the time of the 1970s disco incarnation represented here. The Supremes changed name in early 1967 to Diana Ross & The Supremes. Motown president stated that the name change was done so that Motown could demand more money from live bookings, but rumors began to spread of an approaching Diana Ross solo career. At that time member Florence Ballard had begun drinking and occasionally missing performance and, by June 1967, was replaced by Cindy Birdsong, a member of Patti LaBelle & The Blue Belles. In January 1970, Diana Ross & The Supremes gave their final performance and Ross began her solo career. Jean Terrell replaced Diana as the lead singer and thereby renaming the group back to The Supremes. Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 (Performer).

Comments

Some of the songs are beautifully composed and sung, but most of the time its just the usual Motown formula.
I read somewhere that the Andantes are singing in the background on this cut.
one of my earliest childhood memories born in 1964 we'd hear this playing at my parents' house parties...
Some songs just have it. This whole thing is smooth like buttered love
Love still
This is a really beautiful song—thanks for uploading!
I LOVE this !!!!
The Supremes early recordings had the latin rythyms heard in Mary Wells songs. They were good even though they were minor hits .
Just beautiful ?
I haven’t stopped playing it since I found it
This is so pretty
This is a magic track. Good work girls!
I dedicate this to R H.
FOR ME...THE SUPREMES MADE THE IMPOSSIBLE. SO POSSIBLE.....THEY ARE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME....MY HEROES 07/10/2021
I wish that I could have
Been raised in them
Wonderful day's, but
My mom was and she
Had me in 1965 thanks
Mom!!!!
What a shame this musical fairytale ended with such bitterness and conflict and anger which resonates today 60 years on...I blame Diana 100%...granted the woman strived for success and she succeeded BIG TIME and in some ways she helped Flo and Mary by giving the group so many number 1 singles with her lead voice HOWEVER whether she is a nice person is another matter...I think Diva..I think mood swings, stroppy, and BIG EGO issues...I'll have Mary or Flo over Ms Ross any day!!
