Afterburner is the ninth full-length studio album by Dutch death metal band Sinister. Released on May 10, 2019, the album features ten tracks of intense and aggressive death metal.

From the opening track "The Malicious" to the closing track "The End of All That Conquers," Afterburner is a relentless assault on the senses. The album showcases Sinister's signature sound of brutal riffing, thunderous drums, and guttural vocals.

The production on Afterburner is top-notch, with each instrument clearly defined and balanced. The album also features some guest appearances, including a guitar solo by Andreas Kisser of Sepultura on the track "Dominance by Acquisition."

Afterburner is a solid addition to Sinister's discography and a must-listen for fans of death metal. The album showcases the band's technical prowess and songwriting abilities, and it is sure to please fans of the genre.

By the time of Afterburner, Sinister were almost finished: they had lost most of their initial appeal and the only thing they had maintained was their fanbase. Probably in order to re-gain new fans, Afterburner (Grammy Award for the Worst Cover Artwork Ever: recalls almost immediately Van Halen III, at least due to the visible cannonball hole in the head of the unfortunate monster) includes flashy production, technical riffing and freaking drumming: probably for that, the ex-drummer switched to vocals. As usual, several breakdowns section have more than one connection with Depressive Black Metal like Xasthur and even Sargeist (listen from 2:22 of "The Grey Massacre"), but the band's golden era was long gone, by this time. And it wasn't even that golden, besides.
